MIDDLETOWN - Charlotte L. Shirey passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, May 6, 2013. Mrs. Shirey had been employed at various Departments of the State including the New Castle County Recorder of Deeds, Family Court, Bureau of Child Support, and the Senate Staff at Legislative Hall in Dover. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3792 Ladies Auxiliary and the Blackbird Community Center. She attended Friendship Methodist and Bethesda United Methodist Church. Charlotte enjoyed cooking and had won several awards for her peach pies. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Elizabeth (Short) Farrow; two sisters, Betty Erschen and Bobbie Shirk; and one brother, John Farrow. Charlotte is survived by her husband of 58 years, James C. Shirey; three sisters, Louise Staats Poore, Jean Nowland, and Frances Nabb (Charles); and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Tuesday, May 14 at 10 am at the DANIELS & HUTCHISON FUNERAL HOME, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown. Visitation will be on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
