SMYRNA - Charles "Chuck" Haglan, 84, of Smyrna, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 25, 2009, at Kent General Hospital/Bayhealth in Dover. Born on Jan. 20, 1925, in Conway, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph and Eva (Perkovich) Haglan. Mr. Haglan, who was known by his many friends as "Chuck," proudly served his country during WWII with the U.S. Coast Guard. He retired from DuPont Company as a supervisor after 33 years of dedicated service. Chuck, who had a lifelong interest and love for horses and the race track, owned, trained and drove standard bred race horses for more than 20 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. He leaves many wonderful memories to his loving wife of 63 years, Virginia (Martin) Haglan; a son, Charles W. Haglan of Arizona; a daughter-in-law, Karen U. Lepkowski of Clayton; a granddaughter, Amy LaBerge and a great-granddaughter, Sarah LaBerge both of Smyrna. Committal services will be 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 31, in the chapel at Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear. In memory of Chuck's love for animals, his family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Animal Humane Sanctuary, 409 Black Diamond Road, Smyrna, DE 19977. Arrangements by Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, Middletown, DE. On-line condolences may be sent to www.daniels-hutchison.com 302-378-3410
