SUDLERSVILLE, Md. - Charles Francis Crossley Jr., of Orange Grove , Texas, formally of Sudlersville, Md., died on Wednesday April 18, 2012, in his home. Mr. Crossley the former Sheriff of Queen Anne's County, Md., was born in Chestertown, Md. The son of the late Charles Francis and Ethel P. Breen Crossley Sr. He was 63. Mr. Crossley was a member of the last graduating class of Sudlersville High School in 1966 and was a graduate of Chesapeake College with an Associate of Arts degree in Business Management. Mr. Crossley was a longtime law enforcement officer beginning his career with the Centreville Police Department. In 1990 Mr. Crossley was elected to his first of four terms as the Queen Anne's County Sheriff. During his tenure as Sheriff, Mr. Crossley served as President of the Maryland State Sheriffs Association. He was also an instructor at Chesapeake College in their Criminal Justice program. Mr. Crossley was a member of the Queen Anne's County Fraternal Order of police, as well as a past member of the Sudlersville Lions Club and the Sudlersville Volunteer Fire Co. Mr. and Mrs. Crossley also owned and operated the Parkside Deli in Sudlersville for a number of years. Mr. Crossley enjoyed coaching Little League baseball for a number of years as well as collecting baseball cards. He loved his Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens, and enjoyed playing his guitar and country music. Since leaving law enforcement and the busy commitment of community service, Mr. Crossley has lived a quiet life on his ranch in Texas. In addition to his parents, Mr. Crossley was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Crossley. He is survived by his wife, Connie Lea Crossley of Orange Grove, Texas; daughters, Brenda Rhodes of Millington, Md., and Karen Sue Robbins and her husband Larry also of Millington, Md.; one son, Charles F. Crossley III "Chip" and his wife Misty of Orange Grove, Texas; a step-daughter, Brenda Clough of Hartly, Del.; four brothers, David Crossley and his wife Regina of Sudlersville, Md., Gary Crossley and his wife Linda of Clayton, Del., Dennis Crossley of Millington, Md. and Brian Crossley of Sudlersville, Md.; grandchildren, Darren, Courtney and Colin Rhodes of Sudlersville, Md., Buck and Dalton Robbins of Millington, Md., Chippy Crossley of Orange Grove, Texas, Sarah Clough of Millington, Md., and Ashley and Cody Crossley of Orange Grove, Texas. Funeral services with Police honors will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Sudlersville Fire house, Sudlersville, Md. Friends and family may also call Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. also in the Firehouse in Sudlersville. Interment will follow in the Sudlersville Cemetery, Sudlersville. Md.
