Carney: Cutting Medicaid may have devastating outcome

Posted

In response to the Opinion by Lt. Gov. Kyle Evans Gay and Carolyn Petrak, I really believe that taking away Medicaid from those who really need it to be positively functional is going to have scary outcomes (“Delaware must protect Medicaid-funded services”).

My fear is that politicizing people with difficulties, who rely on their medication to be safe to themselves and to others, puts everyone in peril. It will become a larger ripple effect of destructive behaviors in our communities. Mentally challenged people should be treated with the same respect as anyone else is.

Medicaid is just one of the needed services our vulnerable society relies on. Perhaps officials can make it necessary for people who receive Medicaid and who can be productive to pay into it, albeit at a lower cost than traditional commercial health benefits.

Thank you for fighting for us.
