Carla Carpenter Matthews, 71 MIDDLETOWN - On Aug. 4, 2008 a wonderful, giving, and caring soul passed away late Monday night. Carla Carpenter Matthews passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Middletown. She was 71. Carla, also known as "Mommom" to many, was known for her generous heart and contagious, outgoing personality. She was a true horse woman who raised and raced Thoroughbreds, Arabian horses, and Quarter horses throughout her life. Carla loved to take risks and dedicated most of her time to her family. Her family was the most important part of her life. She was not just any mommom but was everyone's mommom wherever she went In her past time Carla enjoyed spending time at her favorite spot Delaware Park. Carla was preceded in death by her mothers, Louisa d'Andelot Carpenter and Agnes Scott; and her brothers, Ronald d'Andelot Carpenter and William Rickards. She is survived by her daughter, Kimberley VanSant Cook, as well as her close friend and son-in-law, Scott Cook of Middletown; her grandchildren, Christopher McGreevy, Patrisha McGreevy, and Cody McGreevy all of Middletown. Others close to her heart were her sisters, Sonia Carpenter Tingle of Florida, Patricia Knox-Nedwick of Newark, and Anna Elliott of Delaware and a host of nieces and nephews, especially Jewell Carpenter Marsh of Delaware and Greta Sieman of Virginia who were like her daughters. A lifelong friend, Elmer Horsey of Chestertown, was dear to her heart. Carla Matthews was loved by so many people and she loved so many as well. Unfortunately, there are too many to be listed individually. A viewing will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N Broad St., Middletown. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Old Drawyers Presbyterian Church, 2839 Dupont Parkway, Middletown, near Odessa. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to The American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720. On-line condolences may be sent to www.daniels-hutchison.com.
