Caporiccio: How can a veteran support Trump?

Posted

Everyone is entitled to his or her own ideas and beliefs, as incomprehensible as they may be. Col. Frank Daniels has the right to support any candidate, and through this support show his approval of a man who has bragged about and been convicted of molesting women; who has called his daughter “hot” and said that, if he wasn’t related to his daughter, he would date her; who has called racists and fascists “good people”; who lost the popular vote by over 2 million votes in 2016 and over 7 million in 2020; who told people to inject bleach to fight COVID-19; who has praised various dictators in North Korea, China, Russia and Hungary; who has lied about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio; and who has told so many documented lies that it’s impossible to keep up with them (“On policies, Harris can be described as ‘chameleon,’” Sept. 23).

He also has the right to call Vice President Kamala Harris a “socialist,” even though he practices “socialism” himself through his pensions, Medicare, Social Security, etc.

What I can’t understand is how Col. Daniels, who is a veteran, can continue to praise and support a man who, as commander in chief, refused to visit a military cemetery, with the excuse that it was raining, and has called veterans who gave their lives for the country “suckers and losers.” Col. Daniels should be ashamed of himself for this, if nothing else.
