Campbell: Measure provides commonsense approach to immigration enforcement

Posted

As a Delaware resident in support of House Bill 368, I am writing in agreement with James Nolan (“Local police must accept accountability”). HB 368 would prohibit detaining or extending the detention of any person based solely upon an immigration detainer or civil immigration warrant.

HB 368 provides a thoughtful, commonsense approach by appropriately carving out exceptions for individuals who pose proven threats to public safety. The bill ensures that immigration holds remain permissible for those convicted of violent felonies, convicted sex offenders, perpetrators of domestic violence and individuals with multiple DUI convictions.

Protecting our communities requires local law enforcement to focus on criminal behavior, rather than executing civil administrative requests. Please stand with immigrant families and community safety by supporting this legislation.
