CAMBRIDGE — On April 9, six hearty souls from Cambridge Woman’s Club (“CWC”) braved the elements to fulfill their commitment to help Cambridge Main Street’s “Clean-Up Day” downtown. The members sported their new Cambridge Woman’s Club t-shirts proudly, although they were necessarily buried under layers of clothing.

Focusing on Cannery Way, CWC members collected litter, weeded and cleaned up the entire space, filling approximately 8 bags donated by Midshore Riverkeeper Conservancy for this purpose.

The Cambridge Woman’s Club was established in 1900 and began the first lending library for the area, which then became the Dorchester County Library. The Club established other important area organizations such as the Auxiliary for the Dorchester County Hospital, the County Historical Society, the County Garden Club and the local Red Cross Chapter.

CWC holds meetings each month from October through May, on the first Friday of the month at 12:30 p.m., which are free and open to the public. The club hosts speakers on a variety of interesting topics.

The meetings are held in the Club House at the historic Sycamore Cottage at 417 High St. (across from the Robin Hood Shop). The Club’s next meeting is May 6 and is the Annual Meeting which includes a luncheon. All are welcome.
