CAMBRIDGE — The Cambridge Wheels Car Club hosted its third annual Downtown Car, Truck and Bike Show in Cambridge on Sunday, and set new records for attendance. This year 115 vehicles were registered in the show, which included mostly cars and trucks, along with a small handful of motorcycles. The Main Street area of Cambridge was blocked off from Muir Street, up Race Street and through Poplar, and around the corner on High Street up to the post office. The parking lot at Craig’s Drug Store was used for the bandstand and “club headquarters,” and it also was used to park a group of registered vehicles once all the spaces were taken up on High Street. “This is without a doubt the best turnout we’ve ever had, and we’re very pleased with it,” said Ron Bromwell of the Cambridge Wheels club. Last year, the Cambridge Wheels show drew 95 entrants in its second year, and the first year 55 cars graced the downtown streets. “We’re happy that the show appears to be growing,” said Mr. Bromwell. Local businesses High Spot, Choptank Charlie’s, Gina’s Ice Cream, Jimmie & Sook’s, RAR Brewery, Sunnyside, Bliss, The Wine Bar, Katie Mae’s, Black Water, Canvasback, Night Kitchen and more were open for business during the show, which ran from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The band Blackwater set up in the drug store parking lot and played during the afternoon, much to the delight of car owners and spectators alike. Blackwater is a local band who call themselves “An eclectic blend of funk, rock, reggae, rhythm and bluegrass band,” and are buildinga  strong reputation for crowd pleasing. The Cambridge Wheels Downtown Car, Truck and Bike Show is a benefit for Pleasant Day, and the proceeds pay for Pleasant Day’s annual trip to Ocean City for the seniors in their care. Last year the show was able to donate $1,600 to the trip, according to Mr. Bromwell, and this year they hope to be able to give a little more once all the expenses are paid.
