CAMBRIDGE—The annual graduation ceremony took place Tuesday evening at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School, sending the Class of 2015 out into the world. C-SD’s happy graduating class gathered in the auditorium to line up for the march into the gym, where a welcome address and awarding of honors was handled by W. David Bromwell, principal of Cambridge-South Dorchester High School. It’s always hard to not get caught up in the excitement obvious on the faces of all the graduates, as they marched into the gymnasium. Four years? No, this is the end of their entire public school career, and tomorrow will be their first step into a new world. They were all wearing a telling grin, and walking with a spring in their step! “I like school!” Eltoro Robertson told us. “I just didn’t like that waking up early in the morning! “It’s a blessing!” said Tyuane Johnson Jr.  “You could see yourself change, from the ninth grade to the twelfth grade, and see everybody else go with you. It’s been a blessing the whole way through, and I’m glad we all lived to see this day!” Devante Ralph gave us his quote: “Perfection is not attainable, but if you chase perfection you can catch excellence.” “I’m excited to graduate, but I’m also upset because I won’t ever see half these people again, because I’m going off to college,” said Deanna Tobin. “It’s been a good experience, playing sports and winning a championship for the cross country team. I’ve bonded with many people and made friendships that I feel will last a lifetime.” The Cambridge-South Dorchester High School Concert Choir sang two songs, the Class Song, The Time of Our Lives, and For Good, from the Broadway musical Wicked. They were accompanied by the C-SDHS Concert Band, under the direction of Mr. Scott Bunting. We listened to a salutatory address by Madison Hope Narr, Spirit Chair of the Class of 2015, in which she joked of being “the second best student in the box” and looked forward to a future of being adults in a new world. Senior class president Madison Brooke Watkins introduced guest speaker Jade Kenny, Miss Maryland 2014. Ms. Kenny talked about her experiences as student, post-student and competitor for Miss Maryland and Miss America honors. Her message succinctly was to work hard toward your goals, and if you have a true desire to attack it “without a backup plan.” She told the class she had seen too many people fall back to a “backup plan” and give up on their dreams, and that without a backup plan you have no choice but to always work toward your dreams. The Valedictory address by Carter Sterling Malkus was brief and humorous. He asked himself the question of how one could sum up the last four years, and concluded “you can’t.” Instead he said that one could look forward to carrying away memories for the school. Carter also said he was “ready to get out of here” to further his education, and closed with a terse, “Now let’s graduate.” Diplomas presented by Mr. Philip L. Bramble, Jr., and Dr. Henry V. Wagner, Jr., Superintendent of Schools, after which the class of 2015 completed their graduation night with great glee. “These students, finishing their program of studies, and demonstrating that they are college and career ready, is the very mission of our school system,” said Dr. Wagner. “We are so very proud of each and every one of them, and wish them all the best as they take on this diversified and global economy that we all share.” Congratulations to the Cambridge-South Dorchester class of 2015.
