CAMBRIDGE — Dorchester County Pool on Cedar Street came alive with food, fun and splashing on Tuesday night, as Cambridge Police hosted the annual National Night Out party in Cambridge. Police Chief Dan Dvorak attended the event, and said, “I thought the event last night was fantastic. So many children (and some adults!) were having a blast in the pool and the food was incredible. As I walked around to get some photos and chat with people, I felt it was a very relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. We had the Department of Social Services, Partnership for a Drug Free Dorchester and Learning Circles passing out information and giving out some freebie items.” Chief Dvorak is working hard to build a good relationship between the police and the citizens of Cambridge, and events like the National Night Out are key to keeping communication open. “All of the businesses who provided food and goodies showed we have a great police and community partnership,” said Chief Dvorak. “We are working so hard to improve communication with our residents and this was a big step forward. The feedback I’ve received is very positive.” Cambridge PD’s Sgt. Antoine Patton was given the task of organizing the event at the pool, and it was difficult to pin him down for a comment as he joined in with the neighborhood kids. “Look at all these people having fun,” he declared. “Is this a great night or what?” National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live. The NNO program is administered by the National Association of Town Watch, and is implemented in communities across the country on the first Tuesday in August.
