CAMBRIDGE — The 67th annual Cambridge Christmas parade came off like clockwork on Saturday evening, to the delight of thousands of spectators lining the parade route. The parade featured 73 entrants this year, and marched through town in slightly more than an hour and a half. “Ninety minutes is about right for a parade, especially this time of year,” said Parade Chairman Bruce McWilliams. “We have had parades with as many as 175 entrants, parades that lasted more than three hours. That’s a little bit too much, especially this time of year.” The weather was perfect for the parade this year, with sunshine and blue skies in the afternoon. However, the temperature dropped from its high in the 50s, and started settling into a more seasonable – near freezing temps once the sun went down. “When we came through town at the end of the lineup,” said Mr. McWilliams, “when the last float went by people were scattering!” Heading for some place warm, no doubt! Mr. McWilliams has been part of the parade committee for 20 years and this is the third year he and his wife Amanda have chaired the committee. “I’m listed as the Chairman,” he told The Banner, “but I have to give all the credit to my wife Amanda. Without her help and organizational skills none of this would have happened!” This year’s parade was dedicated to the memory of Eastern Shore radio news veteran Norm Snyder, who was known as Norm Elliott when he worked for the MTS Broadcasting stations WCEM, WAAI and WTDK. For many years Norm was the familiar voice that delivered the news on the local radio station. He also hosted a morning show with John Harris, who served as the parade emcee. Grand Marshal for the 67th annual Cambridge-Dorchester County Christmas Parade was 2014 Miss Maryland Jade Kenny. Jade grew up in Madison and attended Cambridge-South Dorchester High School. She is the first Miss Maryland from Dorchester County, and went on to compete in the Miss America pageant. She is a 2013 graduate of the University of Alabama, with a degree in Sports Broadcasting and a minor in Law.
