CAMDEN-WYOMING - Calvin L. Grimsley peacefully passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020 at Kent General Hospital. Calvin was known and loved for his strong personal determination and his constant desire to help and care for others.
Calvin was born August 19, 1945 in Abbieville, Alabama to the late Carlton Grimsley and Mable Lawrence Grimsley. Calvin was the youngest of nine children. Although he left Alabama at the age of 18 he maintained strong and loving relationships with his family as well as childhood friends Theodore Merritt and Joshua "Tony" Bass.
Calvin served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. After the Air Force, he worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York where he met Yvonne, his wife of 51 years. He remained at the "Fed" for 18 years as a Computer Analyst until he retired to begin new career experiences which included Citibank, Time Warner and his own successful business, ASOTV.
Calvin attended and graduated from Fordham University with a Bachelor of Science degree and also Adelphi University with a Masters of Business Administration. Calvin worked as an Adjunct Professor and Advisor at New York University supporting students as they completed their Auditing degrees.
Calvin had a lifelong love of sports. He was an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Dallas Cowboys, New York Mets and the New York Knicks. Calvin and Yvonne frequently played tennis together and were well known for their annual U.S. Open tennis parties each September.
Calvin and Yvonne built a retirement home in 2004 and left New York permanently for Delaware in 2015. They continued to host family and friends for holidays and celebrations. As a part of their transition, they became active members of the Pentecostal Church of Dover, Delaware.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his siblings, C.A., Gertrude, Agnes, Rita, Floyd and Frances.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne King Grimsley of Wyoming, Del.; son, Brian Grimsley of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Tracie Grimsley Meyers and her husband Julian of Jersey City, N.J.; sisters, Ida Clarke of Tallahassee, Fla. and Novelle Peoples of San Antonio, Texas; grandson, Julian Alexander Meyers; as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, December 11, 2020 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Kidney Association.
