Bruce E. Burgoyne

DOVER - Bruce E. Burgoyne, 86, of Dover, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, in Westminster Health Center. Mr. Burgoyne was born Oct. 24, 1925, in Benton Harbor, Mich., to the late Howard Burgoyne and Ruth Helmick Burgoyne. He retired after 20 yrs of combined service in the Navy, Army and Air Force as an intelligence officer. He continued as a civilian employee for six more years. Mr. Burgoyne was an esteemed translator of over 40 documents relating to the American Revolutionary War including "A Hessian Diary of the American Revolutionary War" and "Enemy Views." Mr. Burgoyne was awarded the Gold Good Citizenship Medal by the Del. chapter of the S.A.R. in 2006. Mr. Burgoyne is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dr. Marie Marple Burgoyne of Dover; three sons, Walter B. Burgoyne of New Orleans, La., B. Aaron Burgoyne of Charlottesville, Va., and Jurgen A. Burgoyne of Dover; his granddaughter, Brooke L. Burgoyne, also of Dover; his nephew, Michael H. Burgoyne; and niece, Tina Brennan of Maryland. Mr. Burgoyne continued to be sought out by scholars around the world. Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2011, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.
