CAMBRIDGE — Andrew Bradshaw announced on Wednesday afternoon his decision to run for mayor in the upcoming Cambridge municipal election. Bradshaw is a lifelong resident of the Cambridge area, having been raised by his grandparents, Faye and Roy, just outside the city in the Jacktown area.

He is the 2007 salutatorian of Chesapeake Christian School, in Easton, and a magna cum laude graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, where he received degrees in Political Science, History, and Law & Society. As a student at Penn State, Bradshaw was 2015’s Penn State Outstanding Adult Student Award recipient, an honor bestowed upon one Penn State learner above age 24 who has overcome difficulty and hardship to become a leader in the Penn State community. Near the end of his collegiate career, Bradshaw was named a Maryland Public Service Scholar, and subsequently served in Governor Hogan’s administration as an aide in the Governor’s Legislative Office, providing research used by the administration when drafting the Governor’s legislative priorities.

Following graduation, Bradshaw returned to the Eastern Shore, and shortly after chose to purchase a home in Cambridge’s West End. He went to work assisting in the growth of his family’s business, Roy Bradshaw’s Body Shop, as it spun-off the Bradshaw’s Towing division, and as it began entering the heavy-duty towing and heavy-equipment hauling fields.

During this time, he also assisted with the establishment and growth of a sister-business, 1st Choice Environmental Services. Both grew quickly, adding nine employees across the companies to their payrolls between 2017 and 2020. “Under Bradshaw’s guidance, the businesses have become great contributors to the Cambridge community, helping to sponsor and grow events in Cambridge and throughout Dorchester County,” a statement from his campaign said.

“Bradshaw’s dedication to Cambridge goes beyond his business relationships,” the statement said. “He serves as cochairman of the Cambridge Rescue Fire Company Train Garden, sharing his passion for model railroading with thousands of Cambridge residents annually, while helping continue a Cambridge tradition with more than eight decades of history.”
His time with the Train Garden led Bradshaw to make the decision to pursue firefighting. He is a probationary-active member of Rescue Fire Company, and has become one of the company’s top responders.

He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Nanticoke Historic Preservation Alliance, working to preserve the history of the
Handsell site, where Native-Americans, European whites, and both enslaved and free Black Americans have had settlements over the course of many centuries. He worked with Delegate Johnny Mautz on his 2018 reelection campaign, assisting with tasks throughout Cambridge and
Dorchester County.

Bradshaw’s campaign slogan, “The Bridge to Cambridge’s Future,” reflects his desire to cross the gulf he believes exists between the Cambridge of today and a Cambridge realizing its potential. “The upcoming election is the most important Cambridge has faced in decades,” Bradshaw said.

“We must choose leaders who not only have a desire to see Cambridge succeed, but who are bold, and have the ideas, relationships, and determination to see the task through. The decisions of this next Mayor and Council will shape the City’s future for decades to come.”
