While having lunch at the Modern Maturity Center recently, I read in its newsletter an article titled, “City of Dover Update; Councilman Explains ‘Why I voted against Dover’s Budget.’”
I think the article speaks volumes about how we live in a broken society, where those of us who are struggling, sick and on fixed incomes — like myself and other older adults — are looked over and made to feel downtrodden.
With the current economic climate and forecast not looking prosperous for the average citizen, you would think that the Dover leaders and city officials who supported the electric rate increase would have compassion for those with misfortunes or who are victims of circumstance. Sadly, residents are being pushed aside by those they elected to City Council to represent their best interests.
Other than Brian Lewis and Roy Sudler, did the councilmen and -women who voted yes to this electricity increase speak to their constituents about how they feel about it?
Councilman Lewis, you continue to stand in the trenches. You and Councilman Sudler continue to fight for your constituents daily — and not for applause. You have to fight on the chamber floor, too, not for popularity but because you truly care about the people. You both are not afraid to speak truth to power and put the real issues on the table.
Thank you for doing what you do.
