As a concerned citizen of Dover, I am writing to urge our community leaders and fellow residents to support a comprehensive, independent forensic audit of our city’s finances and operations.
In recent months, Dover’s financial outlook has become highly concerning, and questions have arisen from the public at City Council meetings regarding budget allocations, budget gaps, maintaining sufficient reserves, project delays and the overall efficiency of spending. While I believe most of our City Council members are dedicated to serving the community, transparency is the foundation of trust. An impartial audit by the state or a federal agency would not only clarify how taxpayer dollars are being used but also identify opportunities for improvement and ensure financial stability that could lead to savings.
Such an initiative is not about pointing fingers — it is about ensuring that our city remains accountable, efficient and responsive to the needs of its residents. I encourage our city’s elected officials to take this step proactively, demonstrating their commitment to openness and good governance.
Our community deserves clarity, and an independent audit is a constructive way to achieve it.
