I am a resident of Dover and am deeply concerned about the electricity rate increase that was voted on at June 9’s City Council meeting. This 10% increase is going to place a substantial burden and undue hardship on all the taxpayers of this city, specifically the older population and those struggling with the rising cost of living in Dover.
I think the city manager, finance director, electric director and other city employees need to go back to the drawing board and do their due diligence to introduce a proposed electric rate at a lower cost to the residents.
The members of City Council were voted in to be good stewards of our tax dollars and have a fiduciary responsibility to protect us from unreasonable taxes and fee increases. Council needs to ensure that any and all rate proposals are reviewed with the utmost care and diligence to protect the best interests of all citizens.
Lastly, if the majority of City Council is not inclined to recant their votes to reduce electric rates, are they willing to cut costs on other assessed fees, to take the burden off the taxpayers?
