Betty Jean Mannon Boogaard, "Betty Boo", became a heavenly angel on January 20, 2025. Betty Jean was born in Smyrna on the Campbell farm on July 14, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Wilson and Mary Mannon. She graduated from Delaware City High in 1951. She then went to work for the Diamond State Telephone Co. as an operator in Wilmington. She also worked for IBM for 10 years, a job she dearly enjoyed. Her last job was with the Modern Maturity Center as a telephone receptionist for 22 years. She was known as "The Voice of MMC" She thoroughly enjoyed every moment there and took such pride in her job.
She has two beautiful children, Tommy E. Johnson, Jr. and wife Lynn, and Laura Jean Asbury and her husband Dane. She was Mom Mom to 5 loving grandchildren, Bobby, Curtis and Kelly Asbury, Katie Lee and Clark Johnson. She has 3 wonderful great-grandchildren, Allie and Reagan Lee and Roman Asbury. She was preceded in death by her sweet brothers, Paul and Wilson Mannon and sisters Eleanor Davis and Mildred Duff.
Betty's hobbies were gardening, flowers, fishing, nature's beauty and country music. Anyone who knew her,
thought of her as always cheerful and helpful with a charming smile. She will be dearly missed and will always remain in the hearts of all that knew her.
This obituary was written by Betty many years ago with only a few updates. Betty loved life and all those that shared it with her. She leaves behind numerous loved ones, beloved neighbors, the caring staff at Carroll
Lutheran, her MMC family and many others. She was always the optimist and her laughter will be forever heard in our hearts. She was our sunshine. XOXOXO
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 11 AM to 12 PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 12 PM. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna.
Instead of flowers, donations to the Modern Maturity Center in Dover or the Asthma Foundation/American Lung Association of Delaware is recommended.
