FELTON - Betty Jane Nichols Shulties, 79, of Felton, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. She was born on Dec. 5, 1931, in Greensboro, Md., to the late Charles E. and Bertha Nichols. Mrs. Shulties was a 1947 graduate of the Greensboro High School. She was a financial secretary for Lake Forest School District retiring after 24 years of service. She was a faithful member of Prospect United Methodist Church, Harrington, of which she served as a past secretary for the church council, a trustee of the church and a member of the United Methodist Women. She thoroughly enjoyed working with her church friends making quilts for the homeless each year. She was a member of the Delaware Association for Educational Office Professionals serving as their treasurer for 6 years and as a district representative for Lake Forest. She was also a member of the Harrington Senior Center. Mrs. Shulties was a very loving mother who cherished her family. She was very close and proud of her grandsons and her great-granddaughters were the joy in her heart. She looked forward to having family dinners throughout the year, especially our Christmas Eve dinner. She enjoyed cooking and was constantly asked for her famous fried chicken. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Mervin L. Shulties; and brother, John W. Nichols. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Sheryl Ann and Lee Ford of Wyoming, and Deb and Bruce Stewart of Felton with whom she shared a home; three grandsons, Steven and Carrie Stewart of Port Neches, Texas, Ashlee and Brittney Stewart of Felton, Ryan Ford and fiancée Kasey Grimm of Washington, D.C.; great-granddaughters, Addyson Raye, Margo Elizabeth and Harleigh Morgan, all of Port Neches, Texas; two sisters, Ruth Dean of Harrington, and Ann Stoops of Centreville, Md. A funeral service will be Thursday, Oct 13, 2011, at 2 p.m., at the Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W Sunset Ave., Greensboro, with burial following in the Greensboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, from 7 to 9 p.m., and 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
