Betty J. Laggner

Betty J. Laggner, 86 HOCKESSIN - Betty J. Laggner, of Hockessin, formerly of Smyrna, passed away on Friday Jan. 29, 2010, at Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 86. She was born in Laurel, the daughter of the late Cecil and Florence Marie Riggin. She was a 1944 graduate of Thomas Jefferson University School of Nursing, Philadelphia. Mrs. Laggner was the registered nurse for her husband's medical practice in Smyrna for 36 years. She was the past president of the Auxiliary of the Medical Society of Delaware. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards with her bridge club, playing Mahjong, and doing volunteer work. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Harold J. Laggner; two sons, Brooke (Holly) Laggner, of Longwood, Fla., and David (Sandy) Laggner, of Wilmington; a daughter, Rosanne (Leigh) Cook of Greenville; and five grandchildren, W. Brooke Laggner, Robin Cook, Megan Cook, Brandon Laggner, and Ryan Laggner. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Catholic Church, 10 Old Church Rd., Wilmington, where friends may call one hour prior to Mass. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, P.O. Box 1668, Wilmington, DE 19899.
