Betty Ellen Johnson

DOVER - Betty Ellen Johnson, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at home. Mrs. Johnson was born Sept. 22, 1928 in Dover, to the late David Ziegler, and Ellen Tomlinson Ziegler. She started her medical career as a Nurses Aid in 1956. Mrs. Johnson retired in 1990 as an ER Technician from Kent General Hospital after 34 years. She loved animals, especially her dog ,Sugar. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed reading, Peanut Butter, Milkshakes, and Iced Coffee, spending time with her grandchildren, especially going shopping with Jamie and yard sales with Mandy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Simm David Johnson, Jr.; daughter, Ellen Irene Doddato; and brother, Donald Ziegler. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Ratray of Dover, Carol Beachy (Benjamin) of Mifflinburg, Pa., Robin Startt (Jimmy) of Smyrna, and Terri Witmer (Don) of Magnolia; sister, Gladys Sipple of Wyoming; sister-in-law, Carla Ziegler of Camden; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held 12 noon, Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to First State Animal Shelter, and SPCA, 34 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
