Bertie T. Sewell

DOVER - Bertie T. Sewell, of Felton, formerly of Greenville, S.C., passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011. She was born in Laurens County, S.C. on Oct. 21, 1909, daughter of the late W.A. and Alice Tumblin. She moved to Dover in 1989 to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Bill Palmisano, and immediately became part of the local community. She was a devoted volunteer for several years at Kent General Hospital where she made many friends. She was also a member of the Century Club and their craft groups. She numbers many friends in that organization as well. She also attended services at the First Southern Baptist Church. She was the last member of her immediate family. In addition to her husband, R.T. Sewell, who passed away in 1984, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marie Tumblin and Cora Goff; and six brothers, Talmadge, C.P., Willie, Haskell, Herman, and Raymond Tumblin. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Palmisano and husband William of Felton; step-son, Robert T. Sewell, Jr. of Washington State; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the Mackey Mortuary, Greenville, S.C. Local arrangements by Torbert Funeral Chapels. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at torbertfuneral.com. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 950 W.
