Bernie Lee Bowden, 70 MILLSBORO - Bernie Lee Bowden, of Millsboro, passed from time into eternity Monday, August 4, 2008, in his residence surrounded by his wife, children and family members. He was 70. Born Nov. 9, 1937, in Engelhard, N.C., to the late Edgar and Rubie M. Spencer Bowden. Mr. Bowden moved to Delaware with his parents in 1954, later he met and married the former Rebecca L. Palmer of Lewes. Together they reared their three children making Lewes their home. His working career spanned more that 40 ears with Doxsee Clam Factory, Al Stango's Western Auto, Ace Hardware and Hazell M. Smith's Farm, Lewes. Mr. Bowden was a member of St. Paul UM Church Lewes where he served on the trustee board, Rising Sun Lodge 4 Milton, past president of the Lewes Lions Club, American Legion Post Lewes. He retired after more than 20 years service with the Army Reserves center in Lewes, as supervisor of the motor pool fleet division. Mr. Bowden is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rebecca L. "Becky" Bowden; a son, Bernie L. Bowden Jr of Millsboro; two daughters, Bernice L. Bowden-Ross and Shelrita Bowden-Brinkley both of Millsboro; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; seven brothers, Jennis L. Bowden of Millsboro, William E. Bowden of Millsboro, Allen R. Bowden of Millsboro, Garland Bowden of Orlando, Fla., Leon a. Bowden of Milton, Charles C. Bowden of Dover and Billy r. Bowden of Philadelphia, Pa.; sister, Beatrice Oliver of Lewes; Hazell M. Smith who lovingly thought of Mr. Bowden as a son and Raymond Matthews and Dupree Bates, his friends and co-workers. Services will be noon Saturday in the Friendship Baptist Church, 500 W. 4th St., Lewes. The Rev. George H. Edwards will officiate. Friends my call at the church Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Henlopen Memorial Park. Arrangements by Miller Funeral Services, Lewes.
