FELTON - Bernadette B. Hammond passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, November 21, 2022.
She was born on January 20, 1945 in Baltimore, MD, to the late Herman and Dolores Wagner.
Bernadette was very active and invested in her community. She was a member of the Felton and Frederica Fire Companies' Ladies Auxiliaries and the Seaford and Harrington Moose Lodges. She was involved in the Modern Maturity Center in Dover, the Red Hat Ladies, local 4-H clubs, and more. She enjoyed baking and making homemade candies.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Zareo; her second husband, William Hammond; and her siblings, William "Bill" Wagner, Mary Madden, and Kathy Houston.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Robin Harvey (Derek), Janene Gerardi, Richard Zareo II (Tawnya), and Herman "Lee" Moore II; her sister, Patricia Mitchell (Bobby); her grandchildren, Richard "Keith" Zareo III (Lucy), Haley Gerardi (Peter Schonert), Micaela Hawkins (Ryan), Ryan Moore, Caleb Harvey, Sean Moore, Chloe Zareo, Ivory Zareo, and Elijah Zareo; and her great grandchildren, Timothy Zareo, Rose Zareo, and Riley Moore.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022 at noon at Berry-Short Funeral Home, 217 E. Main St. Felton, DE 19943. A time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Greensboro, MD.
Flowers are accepted; however the family encourages donations to Alzheimer's Association at https://act.alz.org/site/Donation, or to VITAS Hospice, 100 Commerce Drive Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Bernadette's caregivers and VITAS Hospice for their support during this difficult time.
