'The Lance Man'
Benjamin Franklin Watkinson passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 5, 2024. He was born to the late Robert and Ruth Watkinson in Greenbush, Virginia. Graduate of Parksley High School in 1955.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Iris; second wife, Janice; sister, Margaret Ann Williams; and brother-in-law, John Laramore, Jr.
Benny was known as "The Lance Man" because he was a salesman for Lance, Inc. for over 25 years. Before becoming "The Lance Man", Benny worked with harness horses training and driving them. After his career with Lance, Inc. he returned to the harness horse business and became a horse owner, owning many horses such as Mystique of Magic and Artdotcam. He enjoyed coming to the barn and helping out. His hobbies included fishing, watching sports, especially RTN, watching and keeping up with all the horses in the barn race, also watching his westerns, rabbit hunting, playing cards and writing poems.
Benny leaves to cherish his memory his children, Jean Carole Dorr (Thomas), Eddie Davis, Jr. (Janet) and Penny Boyd (Tim); grandchildren, Brittany Davis, Laci Stubbs (Jason), Timothy Boyd and Eric Davis (Jenny); three great-granddaughters, Ava, Emma, and Gwen; two great-grandsons, Jason and Max; brother, Bobby Watkinson (Della); brother-in-law, Marty Laramore; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as extended family and friends.
A funeral service for Benny will take place on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at 11:00am at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, DE 19934. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Following service, a gathering of friends and family will be held at Marydel VFC, 110 Firehouse Lane, Marydel, DE 19964.
