Mrs. Horton was the widow of another Milford-area native, George V. Horton, who died in 1998. The Hortons were married in Milford on Oct. 10, 1942. She was born on May 25, 1920, the daughter of Dr. Samuel M.D. Marshall and the former Ruth Tharp Heisler, in Milford where she was reared. Her grandfather, father and uncle founded the first hospital in Milford. Her brother, Samuel, a longtime Milford bank executive, now is retired in Dover with his wife Eva. Mrs. Horton was salutatorian and vice president of her 1938 Milford High School class, and starting center and captain of the girls' basketball team. In 1942, she graduated from Duke University, where she was Delta Gamma Sorority president and a pre-law student. Her husband's career and his World War II naval service took her to Chicago, IL; Norfolk, VA; Philadelphia, PA; Indianapolis, IN, and Atlanta, GA before the couple retired to Stuart, FL in November 1970.. Mrs. Horton served as president of the Visiting Nurses Association in Downingtown, Pa. (a Philadelphia suburb) and in Indianapolis. Also, she was president of the Episcopal Church Women of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Indianapolis, and was active in St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Stuart, Fla. She leaves two sons, Alan of Naples, Fla. and John in Neptune Beach, Fla.; her brother, Samuel; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
