Barbara 'Bobbi' Lee Burger Novak, 77
DOVER, DE - Barbara "Bobbi" Lee Burger Novak passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022. Bobbi was born in Dover, Delaware on July 11, 1945 to father John H. Burger Jr. and mother, Virginia Laramore Burger. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Virginia; her brother in-law, William E. Velvel, Jr.; and her beloved dog, Lucy.
Bobbi graduated from Dover High School in 1963. Growing up, Bobbi's interests were water skiing, deep sea fishing with her father, and sailing her boat, the Sailfish in Lewes Bay during the summers. She caught her first sailfish at 14 during a fishing trip in Palm Beach, Florida on her Dad's deep sea fishing boat, the Virginia B. After attending the University of Delaware, she worked as a caseworker for two US congressmen at Capital Hill in Washington, DC. She later moved to Virginia Beach where she became certified in diving. Bobbi went on many dive trips including one to Cozumel where she came across a Moray eel. Her love for the ocean was a lifelong passion.
Bobbi received her real estate license and brokerage license after moving to Fredericksburg, Virginia. She opened a successful brokerage company in Fredericksburg and she was recognized often for her accomplishments in real estate. She was an amazing cook and was known to all who knew her for her seafood chowder and crab bisque. Bobbi loved cuisine and throughout her life entertained her loved ones with her one of a kind dinner parties. Bobbi enjoyed her Sunday lunches with her sister, Connie, and it became a tradition when she moved back home to Dover. Bobbi will be remembered by her family for her love of life, vivaciousness and adventurous spirit. She lived throughout the United States, traveled the world and loved to entertain with good food and good friends and family.
She is survived by her sisters, Patricia Velvel and Connie Burger, both of Dover; her niece, Stefanie Velvel Benson and husband, Jeff Benson; great niece, Caroline Paige Benson; and great nephews, Rowan Thomas Benson and Brayden Patrick Benson.
Her burial will be private and the family asks in lieu of flowers donations be made to: First State Animal Center, SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, Delaware 19934
