Barbara Clendaniel Gehlert

REHOBOTH BEACH - Barbara Clendaniel Gehlert, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. She was 73. Barbara was born in Milford, daughter of the late Harold and Hazel (Hamilton) Clendaniel. Barbara was a graduate of the Milton High School Class of 1955, Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1958, and Wilmington College Class of 1977. She continued her nursing career as a Register Nurse and Instructor of Nursing at Delaware Tech for 25 years. She was involved with the Village Improvement Association for Henlopen Keys, in Rehoboth, for many years. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by a daughter, June Alwine, in 2010. She is survived by her husband, William H. "Wil" Gehlert; two daughters, Dawn Bushey and Kimberly Somers and husband Michael, all of Rehoboth; three grandchildren, Heather Blizzard and husband Jimi Worrall, James and Jeffrey Alwine; a great-granddaughter, Riley Worrall; sister, Lauralee Bray and husband Ken; and brother, Charles Clendaniel; four stepchildren, Vicki L. Gehlert of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Mrs. Christopher Matlack of Cummings, Ga., Mrs. Douglas Grills, Clifton, Va., and Mr. Christopher Gehlert of Avondale, Pa.; and seven step-grandchildren. A funeral service will be noon, Saturday, April 23, 2011, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, with visitation after 10 a.m. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton. In lieu of flowers, Barbara's wishes were for contributions to be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963; or Village Improvement Association, PO Box 144, Rehoboth, DE 19971.
