CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Barbara Anne Townshend, 73, of Chestertown, died May 18, 2009 in Chester River Hospital, Chestertown. Miss Townshend was born on Jan. 21, 1936, in Wilmington, Del., and raised in Chestertown, daughter of the late John and Katharine Coursey Townshend. Barbara Anne was a 1953 graduate of Chestertown High School. She had lived in New Castle, Del., working as a computer programmer. After retirement she returned to Chestertown. Miss Townshend was a member of I.U. Church in Worton, the Kent County Historical Society, and the Wilmington Opera Society, with whom she sang. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Henrietta Townshend Newbold. Miss Townshend will be deeply missed by her sister, Charlotte Townshend Nettleton of Silver Spring; a cousin, Dr. Al Townshend of Chestertown; six nieces and nephews, Pete Naumowicz, Phyllis Taylor, John Naumowicz, William Gussin, Katharine Newbold-Walker, and Susan Townshend Puente; and six great-nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6 in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown. Arrangements by Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech.
