Born in Amesbury, Mass., he is the son of the late Paul Guy Galentine and Bessie Noyes Galentine. Mr. Galentine served with the 2nd Infantry Division in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in 1951 and 1952, and continued serving until June 1954. He is a member of the Korean War Veterans Alliance. He was a Standardbred owner, trainer and driver and earned the distinction of Leading Driver. He amassed over 793 racing career wins. His infamous love of training and racing trotters led him to the upset victory over his long-time friend Stanley Dancer's horse with "Mr. Regal" during Grand Circuit week at Brandywine Raceway in 1971, a ride he never forgot. He remained a member of the United State Trotting Association for over 60 years. He retired from the sulky in August 1981, to embrace his position in the judges' stand. With his longtime knowledge and love of Harness Racing he quickly became Presiding Judge for the Delaware and Maryland Race Tracks, Dover Downs, Brandywine, Harrington Raceway and Ocean Downs. Prior to his retirement he was Presiding Judge for Rosecroft Raceway in Rosecroft, Maryland. He was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Milford, Delaware. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Brigadier General Paul G. Galentine. He is survived by his loving companion of 30 years, Susan Stamper; a son, Daniel E. Galentine; a daughter, Peni G. Warren and her husband Melville; two grandchildren, Austin Chase Warren and Robert Cameron Warren; nephews, Dr. Paul Galentine of Charlotte, N.C., Blade of Alexandria, Va., David of Washington and Chad of Texas. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 200 Church Avenue, Milford, Delaware.
