Athlete of the Week: Regan Torbert, Dover High girls' lacrosse

Posted

Dover High lacrosse player Regan Torbert was voted this week’s Athlete of the Week. The only senior on the squad, the goalie has helped the Senators to a school record 12-3 mark this season.

A starter since she was a freshman, Torbert has 437 career saves, recording her 400th save in Dover’s win over Sussex Academy. She will study nursing and continue her playing career at Stevenson University.

“She is the leader of our defense and does exceptionally well at reading the field,” said Senators’ coach Molly Phillips. “She came up with some big saves this season and is definitely a big reason why Dover won 12 games.”

The Athlete of the Week is nominated and chosen by our readers. The nominating period starts at 2 p.m. on Friday and ends at noon on Monday. A voting period follows from 5 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Wednesday.

This process is performed exclusively online. When nominating an athlete, please include name, school and sport as well as a photo and brief description of why he or she deserves that week’s honor.

All nominations must be high school varsity athletes and come from high schools within Kent or Sussex counties. The winner appears in print each Friday.
