SMYRNA — Smyrna High boys’ lacrosse player Jake Wagner was voted this week’s State News Athlete of the Week.
The senior attack has tallied 19 goals, five assists and seven groundballs in four games for the unbeaten Eagles. In a pair of contests last week, Wagner picked up five goals and four assists.
“Jake is a two-time captain who works very hard in and out of season,” said Smyrna coach Dan Wagner. “He demonstrates leadership by constantly striving to make his teammates better, which has been very important this season because we are a young team.
“He is also a resilient and tough player who makes smart in-game decisions that help drive our offense. We have a great group of players this year, and I am excited to see how Jake and our program continue to grow.”
Wagner is the top five in program history in career points, goals, assists, groundballs and caused turnovers.
