Caesar Rodney High girls’ soccer player Jada McCullough was voted this week’s State News Athlete of the Week. The senior scored twice and assisted on three others in the Riders’ 8-0 win over Cape Henlopen. She added two more goals in CR’s 3-2 loss to Padua.
Riders’ coach Dwayne Lavender said McCullough is looking to follow in the tradition of top-notch strikers CR has had in the past like Jessie and Lexi Prillaman, Aleya Cummings and Jasmine Reeves.
“Jada is a game changer,” said Lavender. “Athletically there are few girls in the state like her. I look forward to seeing what she can do in the rest of this 2021 season and I know like all players this spring she is just excited to get to play.”
The Athlete of the Week is nominated and chosen by our readers. The nominating period starts at 2 p.m. on Friday and ends at noon on Monday. A voting period follows from 5 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Wednesday.
This process is performed exclusively online. When nominating an athlete, please include name, school and sport as well as a photo and brief description of why he or she deserves that week’s honor.
All nominations must be high school varsity athletes and come from high schools within Kent or Sussex counties. The winner appears in print each Friday.
