CAMDEN — Caesar Rodney High baseball player Anthony Hatch was voted this week’s State News Athlete of the Week.
The senior pitched a one-hitter with only one walk and eight strikeouts as the Riders edged defending DIAA state champion Delaware Military, 1-0, on Saturday. Hatch also had three of CR’s nine hits as it split its first two games of the week.
He reached base a total of five times and scored three runs.
For the season, Hatch is hitting .364 while posting a 4-0 record on the mound. He has allowed only one earned run this season with 23 strikeouts and a 0.35 ERA.
“Anthony has had a great season both offensively and defensively,” sad Caesar Rodney coach Jeff Gravatt. “He has been Mr. Utility for us. He plays second and third when he is not pitching depending on who is throwing. He is very athletic and can do it all.”
The Athlete of the Week is nominated and chosen by our readers. The nominating period starts at 2 p.m. on Friday and ends at noon on Monday. A voting period follows from 5 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Wednesday.
