Expect high waves and wind today along Delaware's coast

DOVER – The National Weather Service said the large wind field -- extending about 500 miles in diameter -- will have local impacts today.

"The center of Hurricane Erin will pass well to our southeast and east today, but it has a large wind field which will result in impacts locally," according to a morning briefing. "Widespread minor to moderate coastal flooding forecast for the high tides through Friday evening Along the Atlantic coasts of New Jersey and Delaware, Delaware Bay, and the tidal Delaware River."

Tropical storm force winds and ocean wave heights of 10-17 feet will occur tonight.

Wind gusts along Delaware's coast may be as high as 50 mph.

Along the beaches, expect high surf and rip current advisories are in place through Friday. Significant beach erosion is anticipated.
