DOVER - Arthur Thomas Chandler I, also known as "Pop - Pop" was born on Jan. 10, 1944, to the late Quill Arthur and Jesse Ella Chandler in Exmore, Virginia. He was called home from this life on Dec. 30, 2010, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he was surrounded by family and friends. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Roslyn L. Mims on Jan. 5, 1969. From this marriage they were blessed with three children. He accepted Christ at Holy Tabernacle Pentecostal Church in Bellport, N.Y., where he served on the deacon board. During the majority of his career he drove coach buses, tractor trailers and dump trucks while living in Delaware. While driving for Bennie Smith Bus Co. in 1986 he met Marilyn T. Butcher. The two were united in Holy Matrimony on May 21, 1988. From this marriage they were blessed with a daughter. He drove tractor trailers for Fox Trucking and KJM Trucking Company until he purchased his own dump truck along with his youngest son. Due to his health he was forced to retire in 2007. During his retirement he spent most of his time attending football games at Wesley College and supporting his grandchildren with their athletic careers. Funeral services will be Sat. Jan 8, at 11 a.m. at the Union Missionary Baptist Church, Lincoln and Gibbs Drive, Dover. Viewing will be two hours prior to the service. There will be a viewing Fri. Jan 7, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover. Letters of condolence may be sent and guestbook signed at www.benniesmithfuneralhome.com.
