Arthur John Northwood

Northwood, 90 DOVER - Arthur John Northwood, of Dover, formerly of Wilmington, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover. He was 90. Mr. Northwood was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Camden, N.J., to the late Arthur A. Northwood and Ethel K. Northwood. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. Mr. Northwood worked as a carpet installer for Colonial Rug and Carpet for 30 years. He was a life member of the Holloway Terrace Fire Company, the Hagley Museum – Model Railroad group that created the diorama of the Dupont Power Yard and a member of the Modern Maturity water exercise program. Mr. Northwood was a longtime fan of UD football. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Bayhealth Medical Center for the excellent and loving care they gave. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Northwood; and his sister, Ethel Bouwman. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jean Tibbitt Northwood of Dover; daughters, Diane N. Street and her husband Gerald I. Street of Dover, Robin N. Ralston and her husband William H. Ralston of Newark; sister, Grace Cochran of Wilmington; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday March 9, 2012, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Modern Maturity Center, 1121 Forest Avenue, Dover, DE 19904.
