SMYRNA - Arlene Fetterolf Steele, of Smyrna, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in her residence. She was 85. Born in Ferndale, July 3, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Pearl Lindenmuth Houser. She attended Ringtown schools and nursing school at the Warne Clinic in Pottsville, Pa. She was a practicing Jehovah's Witness. She worked at numerous area hospitals, including Ashland State Hospital in the children's ward, until her retirement in 1983. Aunt Leanie was loved by all and was an excellent cook and baker. She baked home made bread and especially Christmas cookies and potato salad. She was preceded in death by three brothers, John Darvin and Paul; two sisters, Eleanor and Mae; a twin son and daughter, Martin and Mary, in 1964; a daughter, Bertha Ernest, in 1986; a grandson, Shawn Kelly, in 1995; and a great-great-grandson, Brady Fetterolf, in 2008. Surviving are her husband, Carlton Steele, whom she married on June 1, 1979; daughters, Pearl wife of Carl Lute, Kulpmont, Pa., Joan wife of Joseph Tumolo, Shamokin, Pa., Nancy wife of Frank Towey, Ashland, Pa., Theresa wife of John Rhodes, and Marjorie wife of Chuck Aliening, both of Arizona; sons, James husband of Jane Fetterolf, Ashland, Pa., Harold husband of Mandy Fetterolf, Florida, Richard husband of Mary Ann Steele, and Carl husband of Julia Steele, both of Smyrna, and Donald husband of Martha Steel, Arizona; three sisters, Betty Lindenmuth, Shoemakersville, Pa., Sarah Williams, Ashland, Pa., and Gertrude Raudenbush, Ashland, Pa.; three sisters-in-law, Carrie Houser, Ashland, Pa.; Kay Houser, Girardville, and Flo Houser, Pottsville, Pa.; 38 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland, Pa., with Elder Bruce Shuler officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Ringtown, Pa. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
