SUMMARY: Joan Laporta has been reelected as the president of Barcelona for another five years after winning a leadership vote among members of the Spanish soccer powerhouse. Shortly after midnight in Barcelona, the club announced Laporta had won. His only rival, Víctor Font, had earlier conceded defeat and congratulated Laporta, who received nearly 68% of the votes. The club said that more than 48,000 of Barça’s 114,000 club members cast ballots at Camp Nou Stadium or at four other voting stations across Catalonia in northeastern Spain and in Andorra on Sunday. Laporta successfully presided over Barça from 2003-10 during the glory years of coach Pep Guardiola and a young Lionel Messi. He returned to power in 2021.

China continued its dominance as a Paralympic powerhouse and topped the medals table with 15 golds, two more than the United States, which matched its total from the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Games. The Milan Cortina Games marked the 50th anniversary of the Winter Paralympics. Ukraine led the boycott of both the opening and closing ceremonies to protest the presence of the Russians.

Jack Wallace scored a hat trick to help the U.S. beat Canada 6-2 in Sunday’s Para ice hockey final and become the first nation to win all three of the hockey tournaments at the Olympics and Paralympics in the same year. There is currently no women’s division at the Paralympics as it is classified as an open-gender sport. Kayden Beasley, Declan Farmer and Brody Roybal also scored for the U.S. Liam Hickey bagged both goals for Canada, which pushed its rivals hard before conceding three in the final period.

SUMMARY: Kyle Kirkwood keeps taking it to the streets in IndyCar. This time, he won a new race to take over the series lead. Kirkwood made an aggressive pass below four-time series champion Alex Palou with 15 laps to go and stayed in front the rest of the way to win the Grand Prix of Arlington. It was Kirkwood’s sixth career win, the fifth on a street course. The race on a temporary 2.73-mile circuit around the home stadiums of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys and Major League Baseball’s Texas Rangers finished under caution.

Fernandes provided assists for two of United’s goals to take his tally for the season to 16. The record for a single Premier League campaign is 20, with Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne reaching that mark. It was United’s seventh win in nine games under head coach Michael Carrick. United is third and three points clear of Villa in fourth. Liverpool is two points further back after squandering victory against Spurs when Richarlison struck in the 90th at Anfield. The draw left Tottenham one point clear of the relegation zone.

Argentina vs. Spain Finalissima in Qatar called off after widening of Middle East war
SUMMARY: UEFA said Sunday that the game between Argentina and Spain known as Finalissima that was supposed to be held in Qatar has been canceled after the widening Middle East war. The game between South American champion Argentina and European champion Spain was scheduled to be held in Doha on March 27. But the security of the game was put into serious doubt when Iran intensified its attacks on neighboring countries in retaliation to the aerial attacks by United States and Israel that are now in their third week.

Novak Djokovic withdraws from the Miami Open because of a right shoulder injury
SUMMARY: Novak Djokovic has pulled out of the Miami Open with a right shoulder injury, tournament officials have announced. Djokovic is a six-time winner of the Miami event and an eight-time finalist. Both those marks are tied with Andre Agassi for all-time tournament men’s singles records. The third-ranked Djokovic lost to Jakub Menšík in last year’s Miami final. Djokovic won the tournament in 2007, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016, plus made another trip to the final in 2009. The men’s draw for the tournament will be released Monday.

I’ll let you know when I decide.” Vonn is on the mend after suffering a complex tibia fracture in her left leg when she crashed just 13 seconds into her Olympic downhill run on Feb. 8.
