4. WITH: FBN--SUPER BOWL-PATRIOTS-DIGGS IMPACT

5. DESCRIPTION: SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Stefon Diggs’ future was unclear after a season-ending knee injury derailed what turned out to be a one-year stay with the Houston Texans. The veteran wide receiver has found a new stride in New England. He not only led the team in targets and receptions but posted his seventh 1,000-yard receiving season in his eighth year in the league. Diggs also has been the emotional leader of the team, leading fiery pregame speeches and providing energy in a locker room full of young players that had never played in a playoff game prior to this season. He’s also done it while managing a high-profile relationship with rapper Cardi B, and after being accused in December of strangulation and other criminal charges in connection with a dispute with his former private chef. By Kyle HIghtower. 800 words, photos.

6. UPCOMING: By 02/04/2026 6:00 p.m. EST

7. WITH: FBN--SUPER BOWL-SEAHAWKS-DEFENSE

8. DESCRIPTION: The Seattle Seahawks’ “Dark Side” defense has been critical to its success in 2025. The unit is elite at a multitude of levels, whether it be a stingy run defense led by the likes of Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy II, a stout linebacker corps headlined by the leader of the unit in Ernest Jones IV or a solid secondary that has All-Pro cornerback Devon Witherspoon leading the way. It’s a difficult unit to score on, and that figures to be the case for the Patriots, too. By Andrew Destin. 750 words, photos.

BBO--OBIT-LOLICH

Mickey Lolich, hero of the 1968 World Series for the Detroit Tigers, dies at 85

SUMMARY: Mickey Lolich, who had three complete-game victories for the Detroit Tigers in the 1968 World Series, has died. Lolich was the last Major League Baseball pitcher to achieve that feat. Denny McLain was the star of Detroit’s pitching staff in ’68, winning 31 regular-season games. But Lolich was the Most Valuable Player of the Series, with a ERA of 1.67 and a Game 7 road victory over Bob Gibson and the St. Louis Cardinals. Bill Freehan threw off his catcher’s mask and caught a foul pop-up by Tim McCarver for the final out. Lolich jumped into Freehan’s arms, an iconic image of Detroit’s championship season. The Tigers say Lolich’s wife told them that he died Wednesday in hospice care. Mickey Lolich was 85.

FBN--SUPER BOWL-PRO PICKS

Pro Picks: Seahawks will edge Patriots to win their second Super Bowl

SUMMARY: Sam Darnold has been traded, discarded and labeled a bust. Now, it’ll take an upset for him not to be called a Super Bowl champion. Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks (16-3) are 4 1/2-point favorites on BetMGM Sportsbook against Drake Maye and the New England Patriots (17-3) on Sunday. It’s a matchup that features two of the NFL’s most balanced teams who have taken different routes to get here. The Seahawks earned a first-round bye and then dominated the San Francisco 49ers 41-6 to reach the NFC championship game. Behind a spectacular game from Darnold, they beat the Los Angeles Rams 31-27 to advance to their fourth Super Bowl.

ENT--SUPER BOWL-HALFTIME CONTROVERSIES

How Super Bowl halftime moments became flashpoints from the ‘wardrobe malfunction’ to caged kids

SUMMARY: The Super Bowl halftime show, lasting about 13 minutes, has sparked decades of conversation. Iconic moments include Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake’s “wardrobe malfunction” and Beyoncé’s “Formation” performance, which highlighted Black history and identity. These moments aren’t just flashpoints; they amplify visibility and invite interpretation. As Bad Bunny prepares to perform, the focus is on Latin identity and potential social commentary. Past shows have tested NFL boundaries, like Jennifer Lopez’s immigration critique and Eminem’s tribute to Colin Kaepernick.

FBN--JETS-REICH

Jets hire veteran coach Frank Reich as offensive coordinator

SUMMARY: The New York Jets have hired former NFL and Stanford head coach Frank Reich as their offensive coordinator. Reich replaces Tanner Engstrand, who parted ways with the team last week after one season. The 64-year-old brings experience and a veteran presence to head coach Aaron Glenn’s staff. The team recently hired first-time defensive coordinator Brian Duker. Reich met with Glenn and the Jets on Tuesday after being shortlisted with Darrell Bevell and Greg Roman. Reich was previously a head coach for Indianapolis and Carolina and played 14 years in the NFL, including a season with the Jets.

FBN--SUPER BOWL-INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Two high NFL draft picks, two different paths: Maye and Darnold will face off in Super Bowl

SUMMARY: Drake Maye and Sam Darnold came into the NFL in similar fashion as No. 3 overall picks tasked with being franchise quarterbacks for struggling franchises. Their paths to the Super Bowl couldn’t be much different. Maye is looking to join Peyton and Eli Manning as the only quarterbacks selected in the top nine of the last 36 drafts to win a Super Bowl with the team he debuted with as a pro. Darnold could become the first starting quarterback ever to win a Super Bowl after previously playing for four other franchises.

OLY--WINTER OLYMPICS-JANUARY

IOC open to earlier dates for future Winter Olympics and Paralympics because of warmer temperatures

SUMMARY: Staging future Winter Games as early as January and the Paralympic Winter Games in February is a possibility because of warmer temperatures, the International Olympic Committee says. Every Winter Games medal was won in February since the 1964 Innsbruck Olympics opened January 29, and moving to January would likely disrupt scheduling of storied World Cup races and events. It also would more directly clash with NFL and NBA schedules. The IOC is now reviewing Olympic Games issues in the first year of Kirsty Coventry’s presidency and changing the winter edition dates is an option. IOC member Karl Stoss says they’re “discussing to bring the Winter Olympics a little bit earlier” because March can be too warm for the Paralympics.

OLY--POST-COVID GAMES

Free from ‘sports prison,’ Winter athletes get chance to enjoy Olympics without a COVID lockdown

SUMMARY: The last time the Winter Olympians convened, the COVID-19 pandemic was still raging, forcing the Games inside sterilized bubbles. Athletes were forced to test each day and every test brought with it the possibility of an Olympics-wrecking posititive result. Now, the Winter athletes are back in Italy, and they’ll never take the simple things for granted again. Canadian snowboarder Mark McMorris put it best when he said he was hoping to land all his biggest runs at the right time — same as always — but what he’s really looking forward to is being able to celebrate with his friends.

FBN--NFL-INTERNATIONAL

Is NFL pushing boundaries on international games? Australia trip could test limits of global growth

SUMMARY: The NFL has shown no signs of slowing down on its international push. A game in Melbourne next season is part of a multiyear commitment and represents a new frontier for the NFL’s aggressive international plan. The league has never staged a regular-season game so far from home, and Commissioner Roger Goodell has already said Asia will follow “shortly thereafter.” Ahead of the Super Bowl, the league announced Paris as a new host too. But not everyone is as enthusiastic as Goodell about the league’s global ambitions. There are questions about scheduling, the risks to players as the air miles add up, and the quality of play.

OLY--MILAN-CORTINA-WHAT’S NEW?

Do you know what skimo is? Could Vonn and Shiffrin team up? Here’s what’s new at the Olympics

SUMMARY: International Olympic Committee president Kirsty Coventry has touted the Milan Cortina Winter Games as the most gender-balanced in history. That’s reflected in changes to events on the schedule over the coming weeks. The opening ceremony is Friday. A women’s doubles event was added to luge. A women’s large hill individual event appears in ski jumping for the first time at an Olympics. Ski mountaineering is the lone sport making its Games debut and has a mixed-gender event. Skeleton now does, too. Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin could team up in a new two-person Alpine event, if Vonn is able to race after recently rupturing a ligament in her knee.
