SOC--ENGLISH ROUNDUP

Man City and Aston Villa win to stay in touch with Premier League leader Arsenal

SUMMARY: Manchester City and Aston Villa both won to keep the pressure on Premier League leader Arsenal. Nottingham Forest pulled further away from the relegation zone with a 3-0 against Tottenham and Sunderland beat Newcastle 1-0 in the Tyne-Wear derby after an own-goal from Nick Woltemade. Arsenal had extended its lead at the top of the standings to five points with a 2-1 win against Wolves on Saturday. But a day later its closest rivals both responded with victories - second-place City winning 3-0 at Crystal Palace and Villa, in third, twice coming back to beat West Ham 3-2 at the London Stadium. City is two points behind Arsenal and Villa is a point further back.

BBO--DIAMONDBACKS-KELLY

Veteran pitcher Merrill Kelly returns to Diamondbacks on a $40 million, 2-year deal, AP source says

SUMMARY: Veteran starting pitcher Merrill Kelly has agreed to return to the Arizona Diamondbacks on a $40 million, two-year deal, according to a person familiar with the move. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been announced and is pending a physical. The right-hander spent the first 6 1/2 years of his career with the Diamondbacks before the pending free agent was dealt to the Texas Rangers at this year’s trade deadline in July. He was good for both teams, finishing with a combined 12-9 record and 3.52 ERA. Kelly’s return to Arizona isn’t a huge surprise considering he’s a Scottsdale native and played in college at Arizona State.

FBN--STEELERS-REPLACING TJ

TJ Watt is basically irreplaceable for the Steelers. Nick Herbig and Jack Sawyer are ready to try

SUMMARY: The Pittsburgh Steelers will have to try to protect their AFC North lead without T.J. Watt. The perennial All-Pro outside linebacker is recovering from a partially collapsed lung and will miss a Monday night visit by Miami. Nick Herbig and rookie Jack Sawyer will see increased playing time alongside Alex Highsmith with Watt sidelined. Herbig has shown flashes of brilliance this season.
