FBC--COLLEGE FOOTBALL-BUYOUTS
Coach buyouts piling up past $150 million, raising questions about whether the frenzy is sustainable
SUMMARY: Just three weeks into the season, UCLA’s DeShaun Foster and Virginia Tech’s Brent Pry lost their jobs. Since then, more coaches have been fired, including high-profile names like James Franklin and Mike Gundy. By Week 10, buyout totals for coaches have reached around $185 million. This raises questions about whether athletic departments can continue to spend their way out of problems. Experts say the cycle of firing and rehiring is unlikely to stop. Schools may need to consider shorter contracts and more performance-based incentives to manage costs better.
