FBC--FLORIDA-NAPIER FIRED

Florida fires coach Billy Napier after four-year run that ends with a 22-23 record

SUMMARY: Florida fired coach Billy Napier a day after an error-filled win against Mississippi State. Athletic director Scott Stricklin made the move following a 23-21 victory that looked like it was going to be gut-wrenching loss until defensive tackle Michai Boireau picked off a pass with 21 seconds remaining. Even so, the home crowd booed Napier as he sprinted off the field. Napier went 22-23 in four seasons at Florida, including 12-16 in SEC play. He was 5-17 against ranked opponents, including 0-14 away from home.

SOC--ENGLISH ROUNDUP

Manchester United beats Liverpool 2-1 with Maguire’s late goal in big boost for Amorim

SUMMARY: After nine painful years and at the 11th time of asking Manchester United has ended its Anfield hoodoo with a 2-1 win against Premier League defending champion Liverpool. Harry Maguire’s header in the 84th minute sealed one of United’s most significant wins under coach Ruben Amorim and consigned Liverpool to a fourth straight defeat in all competitions. The frustration of many miserable experiences on Merseyside appeared to pour out of Maguire as he celebrated in front of United fans. Liverpool looked like salvaging a draw when Cody Gakpo equalized in the 78th after United had led from Bryan Mbeumo’s goal in the second minute. Also Sunday, Emi Buendia’s curling shot sealed a 2-1 comeback win for Aston Villa against Tottenham.

Stroud. “The first day of practice, he one-handed a pass and I was like: ‘This dude’s for real,’” Stroud recalled this week. “Ever since then, he’s one of the best I’ve ever played with, if not the best.” This week Stroud and Smith-Njigba will play against each other for the first time in the NFL when the Houston Texans visit the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night. Though they won’t be on the field at the same time, they’re looking forward to seeing who comes out of the game with bragging rights.
