BBO--BLUE JAYS-LUCKY CAPS

Hat trick: The Blue Jays think their 1992 World Series-style caps are a lucky charm

SUMMARY: The Toronto Blue Jays have found success after switching to retro caps with white panels. Relief pitcher Jeff Hoffman suggested the change after the team lost six out of seven games, dropping into a tie with the New York Yankees for the AL East lead. Since adopting the 1992 World Series-style hats, the Blue Jays have gone 5-0. They now lead the Yankees 2-0 in their best-of-five AL Division Series. The team wore the caps in July for the first time since 2022, breaking them out for a Hall of Fame weekend promotion. Players have embraced the change, sticking with the white-panel hats and navy jerseys.

FBN--CHIEFS ANALYSIS

Chiefs’ penalty woes continue in loss to Jaguars, their third straight one-score defeat

SUMMARY: The Kansas City Chiefs have struggled with penalties and close games this season. They lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night, marking their third consecutive one-score loss. The Chiefs were penalized 13 times for 109 yards, while the Jaguars had only four penalties. Mistakes, including a 99-yard interception return and a kickoff out of bounds, contributed to the loss. Despite strong performances from players like Tyquan Thornton, the Chiefs have a 2-3 record. They face the Detroit Lions next on Sunday night at Arrowhead Stadium.

FBN--JAGUARS ANALYSIS

Jaguars counting on more heart-pounding plays than head-scratching ones from QB Trevor Lawrence

SUMMARY: It must be somewhat maddening to coach Trevor Lawrence. The Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback makes head-scratching decisions one minute and then makes plays like he did to close out a 31-28 victory against Kansas City. Lawrence had two of the best throws of his five-year NFL career in the final minute against the Chiefs. He threw an absolute dime to Brian Thomas Jr. followed by a bull’s-eye to Dyami Brown on the other side of the field. Those set up Lawrence’s crazy TD scramble that had a packed stadium, both teams and millions more watching from home wondering what they just witnessed.

Jones was caught on a video that went viral smiling widely as he pointed toward fans before briefly flashing the gesture Sunday. He said on his radio show Tuesday he was interacting with Dallas fans, not Jets fans. Jones called the gesture “inadvertent” and that he “put up the wrong show on the hand.”

The Los Angeles Lakers star teased an announcement for Tuesday, sparking speculation about his future. However, Hennessy revealed the news early, unveiling a limited edition orange bottle featuring James’ signature gesture. CAR--NASCAR-LAWSUIT

NASCAR seeks new mediator in antitrust suit as Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing pushes back

SUMMARY: NASCAR has asked a federal court for a judicial settlement conference to mediate an antitrust suit filed by Michael Jordan-owned 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports. The teams prefer to continue with mediator Jeffrey Mishkin, who has been involved in the case. They argue that starting over with a new mediator is less likely to lead to resolution. NASCAR seeks a summary judgment to dismiss the case before the trial scheduled for December 1. The lawsuit centers on NASCAR’s charter system, which guarantees spots and revenue for teams. Both sides have expressed willingness to settle.

FBN--BEHIND THE CALL

Trevor Lawrence’s heroic touchdown caps NFL’s record-tying week of double-digit comebacks

SUMMARY: Week 5 in the NFL was all about dramatic comebacks. Trevor Lawrence led the Jaguars to a thrilling 31-28 victory over the Chiefs, overcoming a 14-0 deficit. The Chiefs, who excelled in close games last season, have struggled this year. The Eagles, Cardinals, Dolphins, Giants, and Chargers also let double-digit leads slip away. This ties an NFL record for most double-digit comebacks in a single week. The Broncos, Titans, Panthers, Saints, and Commanders all rallied from big deficits to win. The weekend started with San Francisco’s overtime win against the Rams when members of the Colorado Avalanche donned Rams uniforms.

FBN--KICKING BALLS

NFL kickers are making more 60-yard field goals than ever and the balls could be part of the reason

SUMMARY: NFL kickers are now making long-distance field goals more frequently, with many kicks exceeding 60 yards. This shift has sparked questions about whether the balls are altered. A rule change this year allows teams to prepare kicking balls before game day, leading to more consistent performance. There have already been four kicks of at least 60 yards this season, close to the single-season record. The new rules have also impacted punts, with average distances increasing. Kickers say the broken-in balls add a few extra yards to their kicks.

US--BY WOMEN-FOR WOMEN

Interest in women’s sports is growing. Here’s how some women-owned companies are responding

SUMMARY: Laura Youngson has made a significant impact by addressing inequality in sports for women and girls. In 2017, she organized a high-altitude soccer match on Mount Kilimanjaro, highlighting the issue. The event led to a documentary and a Guinness World Record. However, Youngson noticed the players wore men’s cleats, which inspired her to launch IDA Sports, creating cleats specifically for women. This move is part of a broader trend where companies like Moolah Kicks and Liv Cycling focus on women’s needs in sports. As interest in women’s sports grows, these brands are rejecting the outdated “shrink it and pink it” mentality.

FBN--INSIDE THE NUMBERS

There’s been a constant at the top of the AFC for nearly the past decade with the teams led by superstar quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson typically at the top of the standings. That’s what made what happened in Week 5 of the NFL season so unusual with Kansas City, Buffalo and Baltimore all losing in the same week for the first time since 2017 when Allen and Jackson were still in college and Mahomes hadn’t taken a single NFL snap. By Pro Football Writer Josh Dubow.
