Final stage of Spanish Vuelta cycling race cut short after pro-Palestinian protesters strike again
SUMMARY: Pro-Palestinian protesters interrupted the final stage of the Spanish Vuelta and forced organizers to cut the race short. There were clashes between police and protesters near the route finale in Madrid. Some protesters carrying anti-Israel banners partly blocked the road and forced riders to stop. The podium ceremony was called off because of security concerns. Organizers did not immediately officially announce the final results of the 21st stage and overall race. There were about 50 kilometers (31 miles) left on the last stage. SOC--ENGLISH ROUNDUP
Man City humbles Man United 3-0 in the Premier League, Liverpool back on top
SUMMARY: Manchester City is back to winning ways. Manchester United is back to square one. City utterly dominated the 197th Manchester derby, winning 3-0 on another humbling day for United coach Ruben Amorim. It could have been so much worse for the red half of Manchester, with Erling Haaland hitting the post and Tijjani Reijnders missing the target from close range as City threatened to turn it into a rout at the Etihad Stadium. Liverpool left it late again and moved back to the top of the Premier League. The defending champion secured a 1-0 win against Burnley and preserved its 100% start to the season thanks to a stoppage-time penalty from Mohamed Salah.

CAR--NASCAR-GIBBS SWEEP
Joe Gibbs Racing emerges as championship favorite after first-round sweep of the NASCAR Cup playoffs
SUMMARY: Whether it’s winning three Super Bowls or five NASCAR Cup Series championships, Joe Gibbs knows how to guide his teams to success through internal turmoil. So when Christopher Bell angrily called out his No. 20 crew last week for questionable strategy during a 24-race winless streak, Gibbs let the emotions run their course rather than step in to defuse the tension. He says: “I let them handle it.” With his fourth victory this season, Bell reaffirmed Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway that that’s a winning philosophy for Joe Gibbs Racing, which completed a first-round playoff sweep.

ATH--WORLDS-SYDNEY’S NEXT RACE
With hurdles removed, McLaughlin-Levrone tackles new race and maybe even a 40-year-old record
SUMMARY: On the hallowed list of world records in track and field, most marks are, indeed, made to be broken. Others are perched there, seemingly set in stone, beckoning all comers to dream of knocking off a Usain Bolt or Florence Griffith-Joyner and becoming one of those instantly recognizable names themselves. Then there is this one: The women’s 400 meters. Marita Koch, East Germany, 47.60 seconds. Oct. 6, 1985. As the 40th anniversary of that Communist-era record nears, the tantalizing prospect of it being broken at this week’s world championships rests in the talents of Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, a once-in-a-lifetime talent with a penchant for breaking new barriers every time she steps on the track for a high-stakes run.
