Chargers LB Denzel Perryman arrested on weapons charges and remains in jail

SUMMARY: Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman has been arrested on weapons charges during a traffic stop for vehicle code violations. Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department officials said Perryman was arrested Friday evening. Deputies discovered five firearms, including two assault weapons, in Perryman’s vehicle. Perryman was cooperative during the stop. He was booked on felony charges and is being held without bond at the South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station. His agent confirmed he has not been released. Perryman is scheduled to appear at Inglewood Court on Tuesday. The Chargers said they are aware of the situation and are gathering information.

Luka Doncic agrees to a contract extension through 2028 with the Lakers, committing to his new team

SUMMARY: Luka Doncic has agreed to a three-year, $165 million maximum contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Slovenian superstar is bypassing a chance at free agency next summer to build a long-term future with his new team. The deal keeps Doncic with Los Angeles through 2028. The Slovenian superstar had a player option for the 2026-27 season under his previous contract. The Lakers acquired Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks last February in a seismic trade for Anthony Davis. Lewis Hamilton says he’s ‘useless’ and suggests a driver change at Ferrari after teammate takes pole

But teammate Charles Leclerc secured pole position. It was a new low in a difficult first season with Ferrari for seven-time Formula 1 champion Hamilton, who qualified outside the top 10 for the second race in a row. He has yet to finish on the podium in a Grand Prix race with Ferrari, with a best finish of fourth. He did however win a sprint race in China in March.

Ferrari’s Leclerc stuns the McLarens to take pole for F1’s Hungarian Grand Prix

Leclerc punched the air in delight as he climbed out of the car after beating Oscar Piastri by 0.026 of a second and the other McLaren of Lando Norris by .041. Defending champion Max Verstappen was only eighth after struggling with the balance of his Red Bull, while Lewis Hamilton was 12th for Ferrari.

Another sex toy gets thrown onto the court during a WNBA game

SUMMARY: A sex toy was tossed onto the court during a WNBA game for the second time this week. Video showed the sex toy out of bounds under a basket after a whistle was blown to stop play during the third quarter of the Golden State Valkyries’ 73-66 victory over the Chicago Sky. An official then kicked it aside before it was picked up and removed. A similar incident occurred Tuesday during the Valkyries’ 77-75 victory over the Atlanta Dream in College Park, Georgia.

Americans set a relay world record in swim worlds in Singapore and Ledecky wins again

SUMMARY: The United States set the world record in the 4x100 freestyle mixed relay, clocking 3 minutes, 18.48 seconds in the swim world championships. The old record was 3:18.83 set in 2023 by Australia. It was only the second world mark set in these championships. It came on a night when the United States won three gold medals, by far its best performance in what had been a lackluster championships for the team. Katie Ledecky won the 800 freestyle and Gretchen Walsh took the 50-meter butterfly. The Americans now have eight gold medals. The championships close on Sunday.

A police report obtained by The Associated Press shows Richardson was arrested Sunday on a fourth-degree domestic violence offense. She ran in the opening round of the women’s 100 meters at U.S. track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon, on Thursday. She has an automatic bye to the world championships in September in Tokyo as the defending champion. USA Track and Field said it is aware of the situaton. Richardson’s agent did not immediately reply to an email request for comment.
