FBN--COLTS-WARREN’S FIT

Rookie tight end Tyler Warren is starting to find his fit at Indianapolis Colts training camp

SUMMARY: Tyler Warren still appreciates the blue-and-white team colors. Everything else has changed — his number, the shade of blue, even the decal on his helmet. This is what happens when the best tight end in college football makes the jump to the NFL. Warren, Penn State’s most versatile player last season, finds himself on a steep and hastened learning curve with the Indianapolis Colts. No, it’s not always easy when you’re studying a new system, working with two new quarterbacks, mingling with new teammates and getting acclimated to a new coaching staff. But Warren seems to be fitting in just fine.

FBN--RULE CHANGES-EXPLAINER

The NFL’s new kickoff rule is here to stay with a slight tweak. What else is changing?

SUMMARY: The NFL has made its new kickoff rule permanent this season with a tweak aimed at increasing return rates. The league also approved changes to the overtime rule and expanded replay assist. The kickoff rule tested in 2024 increased returns from 21.8% to 32.8% and reduced injuries. By moving touchbacks to the 35-yard line, the league expects more returns. Overtime rules now allow both teams a possession, even if the first scores a touchdown. Replay assist can overturn certain penalties with clear evidence. These changes debuted Thursday with the Lions and Chargers game.

BBO--CUBS-WHITE SOX-POLAROIDS-PHOTO ESSAY

PHOTO ESSAY: Polaroids capture Chicago Cubs vs. White Sox ‘Crosstown Classic’

SUMMARY: A fierce rivalry between Chicago’s North and South Siders comes to life each summer during the “Crosstown Classic,” when the Cubs and White Sox face off in their home stadiums. This unique series is loaded with team history and memories for both sets of fans, who hail from the North and South Sides respectively. Polaroids convey nostalgia, and there’s nothing that says nostalgia quite like baseball. The film format requires a level of intimacy not often seen in modern photo coverage of baseball games, when speed and instant images are prioritized.

SOC--EUROPEAN COURT-CAS-FIFA

Top EU court rules that soccer governing body FIFA’s decisions can be challenged outside Switzerland

SUMMARY: The European Union’s top court has ruled that some decisions by international governing bodies, such as FIFA and the IOC, can be challenged outside Switzerland, opening up a system that currently binds athletes, officials and clubs to accept verdicts there. The European Court of Justice said tribunals in 27 EU member states “must be able to carry out an in-depth review of those awards for consistency with the fundamental rules of EU law.” The ruling means EU national courts should be able to review verdicts from the Swiss-based Court of Arbitration for Sport. Switzerland isn’t a member of the EU. The decision came after a long legal fight by Belgian soccer club RFC Seraing and Maltese investment fund Doyen Sports.

The former Buffalo Bills coach will be honored with a party at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. The celebration coincides with the annual induction festivities. Levy led the Bills to four consecutive Super Bowl appearances and is remembered for his resilience and humor. Despite retiring in 1997, he remains connected to the Bills and is campaigning for Steve Tasker’s Hall of Fame induction.
