Prince Harry and Meghan are returning to the UK with their children

LONDON (AP) — The Associated Press has learned that Prince Harry and Meghan have decided to return to the United Kingdom for an extended stay starting this fall, but they won’t resume their roles as working members of the royal family. A person close to the Sussexes who was not authorized to speak publicly told the AP about the decision Wednesday. The person says King Charles III was alerted to the decision on Sunday and wasn’t told about it during the couple’s visit to the U.K. last month. Harry and Meghan’s children are 7 and 5 and have already enrolled at British schools. They will start classes in September.

A timeline of Prince Harry and Meghan's relationship with the royal family as they return to the UK

LONDON (AP) — Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, will return to the United Kingdom, seemingly marking an end to a yearslong rift with the royal family. Britain’s Daily Telegraph newspaper reported Wednesday that the couple won’t resume their roles as working members of the royal family. But returning to Britain means King Charles III, who is being treated for an undisclosed form of cancer, will get to see more of his grandchildren. Harry and Meghan quit royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States, alleging hostility and racist attitudes by the press and royal establishment. But in recent months, there had been signs of a thaw in the tumultuous relationship.

After losing a friend and writing 'Say So,' Dan + Shay are back with the autobiographical 'Young'

NEW YORK (AP) — Grammy Award-winning duo Dan + Shay’s forthcoming album “Young” is 10 autobiographical tracks of crossover country that reflects their lives, now, with new emotional vulnerability. At its center is the lead single “Say So.” It's a surprising detour for the band best known for wedding songs because it's about suicide prevention. Dan + Shay say they were unsure about releasing the track, but then it became both therapeutic and an inevitability. They describe the rest of the songs on “Young” as deeply personal and vulnerable, written with care after previously scrapping an entire album's worth of material.

Kennedy Center tells court it won't try to restore Trump's name to the building before Sept. 8

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Kennedy Center has told a federal court it won't try to restore Donald Trump's name to the building facade before at least Sept. 8. This word comes amid a legal battle over the venue's future. Opponents say the Trump-aligned board seems intent on defying a court order requiring the removal of Trump's name. The Kennedy Center plans to wait until after Labor Day to allow time for legal arguments. A recent board meeting focused on naming the plaza after Trump and adding his name to the facade. The board also voted for a two-year closure for renovations.

Movie Review: Gen Z gets a moody, existential horror in ‘It Ends’

Four young 20-something friends find themselves trapped on an endless road to nowhere in the existential horror “It Ends.” The film is the directorial debut of Alexander Ullom, who also wrote the screenplay. In her review for The Associated Press, film writer Lindsey Bahr writes that “It’s a neat concept that wears a little thin after a while, but it’s a movie that shows promise not only in Ullom’s ability to create a sustained, ominous mood, but in his eye for casting a group of talented and essentially unknown actors.” “It Ends” opens in New York and Los Angeles on Friday. The film is rated R.

Hayden Panettiere's on-and-off boyfriend was at apartment where she died, police report says

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Hayden Panettiere’s on-and-off boyfriend Brian Hickerson and his brother Zach Hickerson were at the South Carolina apartment where the actor died over the weekend. That is according to a police report released Tuesday. A Greenville police officer who responded to the residence Sunday afternoon was met by the brothers and then observed paramedics performing CPR on an unresponsive woman. No cause has been determined, and her death remains under investigation. An autopsy found no signs of trauma, and officers saw no signs of foul play. The onetime child star, who soared to fame in the TV shows “Heroes” and “Nashville” while enduring struggles with addiction, would have turned 37 on Friday.

Movie Review: Jane Schoenbrun’s ‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’ turns slasher tropes inward

Gillian Anderson plays the reclusive final girl of a 1980s slasher franchise in “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma.” Written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun, Hannah Einbinder plays an up-and-coming filmmaker obsessed with recruiting Anderson's Billy Presley for a reboot. In her review for The Associated Press, film writer Lindsey Bahr writes that “it’s a thoughtfully constructed fever dream that wears its high and low brow references on its sleeve — a bold and worthy vision that continues Schoenbrun’s exploration of transitioning using the cinematic and pop cultural tools at their disposal and reinventing them in their image.” Rated R, it's in theaters Friday.

Comedians Eric André and Clayton English settle lawsuit over drug search program at Atlanta airport

ATLANTA (AP) — Comedians Eric André and Clayton English have settled a lawsuit challenging a police program at Atlanta's airport. They alleged the program used racial profiling and coercive searches, particularly targeting Black passengers. The lawsuit, filed in October 2022, alleged they were racially profiled and illegally stopped by Clayton County police. The county confirmed it has ended the program. The comedians described their experiences as dehumanizing. The settlement includes a $30,000 payment and requires police to use body cameras and undergo training. Records showed a high percentage of stops involved Black passengers, with few resulting in charges.
