Seaford - Anthony "Tony" Darnell Savage passed away surrounded by family on April 6, 2014 at his home in Georgetown, Delaware. Tony was born on Feb. 22, 1960 in Seaford to Geraldine M. Savage and Donald L. Cannon. Tony grew up in Seaford and was educated in the Seaford School District. After school, Tony began doing auto and truck repair with his grandfather Charles H. Savage Sr.. Tony became a master mechanic and, through his work, he made many friends who became family. Well known and respected in the automotive community, he had a reputation as being kind, honest, helpful, loving, trustworthy, friendly and faithful. A father figure to many, Tony was especially close to his nieces and nephews: Courtney, Michele, Phillip, and Tiffany. Although Tony had no natural children, he had many "adopted" children that cross cultural lines. A visit to his home would confirm all the love, affection and "family" that he had. If you visited his home you would see pictures of people that loved him. Tony was a jack of all trades and master of most. Aside from his mechanical expertise, he was a wonderful cook who always had enough to share. Friends from miles around knew you could get some of the best barbeque, turkey and dumplings, and chicken soup at Tony's house. In addition, he loved to garden. Every spring he would have a field full of vegetables and a beautiful flower garden. His other hobbies included having political debates and watching basketball and Nascar on television. A fierce friend and advocate, Tony was always there to offer a helping hand. From giving a ride to the store, to traveling to another state to help his friends in the Hispanic community with immigration, he could be counted on faithfully. He loved to make others happy, especially at Christmas time. Children and adults alike, he thought of everyone and loved to see the smiles on their faces. He was our very own Santa Claus, and people couldn't wait to see "Uncle Tony" on Christmas Day. Tony always gave you the feeling that things would be okay. He was a counselor to all, and if he could help solve a problem he would. Tony was a blessing to all of us, and we will be counting those blessings for years to come. He was a light and love to all he met. He was selfless. He was a people person, true friend to all and was loved and respected for his kindness. All the love that Tony left behind will be with us forever. Tony will be in our hearts forever. Tony was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Charles H. Savage Sr.; paternal grandfather, Brooks Cannon Sr.; his aunt, Lovice Redwine and his cousin, Darin C. Thompson. Tony is survived by his mother, Geraldine Savage and father, Donald Cannon of Seaford; his maternal grandmother, Irene Savage and paternal grandmother, Catherine Cannon; his sisters, Renee Savage, Bonnie Cannon, Tammy Shaakir and Cathy Cannon; his brothers, Donald Cannon, Preston Cannon and Randall Snow and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many friends who became family. Services will be Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 12 noon at the Citadel of Hope Church, 10212 Concord Road, Seaford, Delaware where friends may call two hours prior. See
